Shawn Nicholson

Shawn is a brand strategist, designer, and product-minded creative who helps businesses clarify what they stand for and translate that thinking into systems people can actually experience.

His work sits between strategy, identity, digital product, commerce, and physical brand execution. A positioning decision carries through to a website, a product label, a menu, or the way a customer gets support.

Based in Boca Raton, in Palm Beach County, Shawn works with founders across South Florida and beyond. The studio connects the business thinking with the details that make a brand work in practice.

Why independent

The thinking survives execution.

Black Bambu stays intentionally lean so the person helping define the strategy remains involved in the work that follows. You work directly with Shawn, from the first conversation to the decisions that shape the finished system.

The strategy becomes a working reference for identity, websites, commerce, print, and launch. As the project develops, the original business problem stays in view.

Working philosophy

Clarity before action.

  1. 01

    Clarity before aesthetics

Understand the business before designing the surface. Audience, position, and business pressure give the work its direction.

  2. 02

    Systems over isolated assets

A logo is useful when the system around it works. Identity, digital experiences, and physical touchpoints need to tell the same story.

  3. 03

    Strategy stays close to execution

The person helping define the strategy remains involved in the decisions that bring it into the world.

  4. 04

    Business pressure matters

Brand decisions have to work inside budgets, operations, sales, technology, and real-world constraints.

Hospitality roots

From the restaurant floor to the brand system.

A restaurant brand has to survive contact with the floor.

Shawn's relationship with hospitality started at 16. He spent six years inside 32 East, progressing from busser and food runner to private events and table service.

That foundation grew into more than a decade of contributions to restaurant consulting and branding projects, including work connected to Itamae, Zitz Sum, Oceano Kitchen, and One Door East.

It still shapes how he works. Menus, reservations, signage, packaging, staff, merchandise, and digital touchpoints all contribute to the experience guests remember. The brand has to work for the people running the restaurant as well as the people walking through the door.

How engagements work

Start with clarity.

Begin with a strategy conversation about the business, the pressure it faces, and what needs to change. The Clarity Doc establishes the direction. From there, the scope connects the identity, website, and growth assets the business needs.
